Many companies in Southeast Asia want AI to help their customer support team. The market is full of tools that promise to answer every question. Most buyers cannot tell which ones will work in their business.
This guide gives you a simple way to choose. You do not need a technical team to follow it.
1. Start with one task, not "AI for support"
Look at your last 100 customer questions. Most teams find that a small number of questions repeat again and again. Examples are order status, opening hours, fees, password resets and card blocking.
Pick one of these. A tool that does one task well is worth more than a tool that does ten tasks badly. You can add more tasks later.
2. Test it in your own languages
This is where many tools fail. Customers in Southeast Asia often mix languages in one message. They also use informal spelling and local words.
Before you buy, give the vendor 20 real messages from your customers. Check three things:
- Understanding: Does it get the meaning, even with mixed languages and spelling mistakes?
- Reply quality: Is the reply correct, polite and easy to read?
- Local terms: Does it know the names of your products and the words your customers use?
3. Make sure a person can take over
AI will not know every answer. A good tool knows when to stop. It should pass the customer to a person and send the full conversation, so the customer does not have to repeat anything.
Ask the vendor to show you this handover. If they cannot, do not buy.
4. Control what the AI can do
Answering a question is low risk. Changing an account or moving money is high risk. Decide in advance what the AI may do alone and what needs approval from a person.
Important actions should follow fixed rules in your own systems. The AI should not decide them by itself.
5. Check your data and privacy
Ask where customer conversations are stored and who can see them. Ask if your data is used to train other customers' tools. Make sure the answers match your local rules and your own company policy.
6. Measure before and after
Write down your numbers before you start: average reply time, number of questions per day, and how many questions need a person. After one month, compare. If the numbers did not improve, change the setup or stop. Our Contact Center Staffing Calculator can help you see how many agents you need.
